Milestone achieved: residential construction at Schieveste next to MICS officially started

The SchieDistrict area development has reached a major milestone. With a celebratory kick-off event, the official start was given for Schieveste, the new urban district located directly next to Schiedam Central railway station.

A new urban quarter with 3,000 homes

From 2027, approximately 3,000 homes will be built here, along with a range of amenities, a mobility hub and an innovative energy and waste system. Schieveste is set to become a vibrant place where living, working and learning come together.

Symbolic start with prominent guests

The symbolic kick-off was marked in the presence of Caretaker Minister Mona Keijzer (Housing), Provincial Executive Member Anne Koning, Mayor Harald Bergmann and Alderman Antoinette Laan (Housing). Together, they celebrated the launch of one of the largest residential projects in the region.

Connecting MICS and regional talent

MICS is also part of SchieDistrict. This is where technical talent works at innovative companies – talent that will soon be able to find a home in Schieveste. By combining living, learning and working within one dynamic urban district, the project strengthens the region’s attractiveness. For companies at MICS, it means they can anchor talent more effectively to the region, bringing work and living literally closer together.

Collaboration and congratulations

This development is a wonderful addition to Schiedam’s ecosystem, creating space for talent and offering it a place to live. Congratulations to Schiedam Municipality, SchieDistrict, the Schieveste Development Consortium (Dura Vermeer, Van Omme & De Groot Project Developers and Builders, and VolkerWessels Vastgoed) and all partners involved on this festive milestone.
