The MICS Robot

An icon of technology, talent, and innovation.

Along the A20 motorway in Schiedam, at the entrance of the Mechatronics Innovation Campus Schiedam (MICS), a striking new landmark has risen since October 2025: the 16-metre-tall MICS Robot. Designed by StudioSpass and constructed from shipping containers, the robot symbolises what drives MICS — talent, innovation, and collaboration in mechatronics.

The robot came to life during the festive opening ceremony led by councillor Youri Volkman, who—accompanied by smoke and sound—literally set the spectacle in motion. The robot then delivered an AI-written ode to the future of technology:

“Look at me and see yourselves –

the student sketching their first design –

the craftsman tightening the final bolt –

the researcher making code sing –

the entrepreneur who dares.”

What the robot represents

The MICS Robot is a symbol of mechatronics – the smart combination of mechanics, electronics, and computer science. The artwork marks the entrance to a place where businesses, education, and government join forces to create sustainable technological solutions for the future. Whether you are a student, a maker, or an entrepreneur, the robot invites you to become part of this innovative ecosystem.
