The MICS community brings the campus together – connecting at the BBQ

The success of MICS is not about the buildings and facilities, but above all about the people and companies that come together there. Meeting and getting to know each other is essential to progress, to stimulate innovation and talent, and to spark new collaborations. That is why, as the future campus manager, MICS organises moments where the community can meet informally.

The BBQ at Metrohm was a wonderful example of this. A year after the official MICS kick-off, around 130 people gathered on 24 September. Alongside many members of the MICS community, there were also guests from the Hi Delta partner tour and an international delegation from Metrohm. This made the group larger than the community alone – and at the same time an excellent opportunity to showcase MICS more widely.

Welcome and milestones

On behalf of MICS’ developer, Stef de Vos of SDK Vastgoed opened the BBQ. He emphasised how important it is for colleagues from different companies to get to know and connect with each other: ‘The best collaborations often arise from chance encounters. That is precisely why we organise events like this.’

This was followed by a brief review of the past year’s milestones:

⚫️ The official MICS kick-off nearly a year ago in October.

⚫️ Joining the Hi Delta trade association, making MICS part of a strong high-tech network in South Holland.

⚫️ Completion of the Omega building, now home to Metrohm – and our venue for this event.

⚫️ Preparations for the Atlas building, where Boers & Co will be based.

⚫️ New community members in the ONS and Synergy buildings, such as Mikrocentrum, LMesh and Studio MBB.

⚫️ Numerous Break to Innovate lunchtime lectures organised by SchieDistrict and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.

⚫️ The Manufacturing Industry Festival during Schiedam750, where the city got a glimpse of MICS.

Quiz and games

A highlight was the MICS quiz with ten questions about the campus and the community. The winner took home a special MICS cornhole set for their company. In addition, there was plenty of opportunity to unwind with games such as Jenga, Connect Four, cornhole and shuffleboard, which provided lots of fun and new encounters.

Building together

The evening once again demonstrated how important and valuable the community is for the development of MICS. With participants from government, education and businesses large and small, new connections were made for exciting future collaborations.

We look back on a successful event with enthusiastic feedback – and one thing is clear: this has left us wanting more. Together, we are continuing to build a strong, innovative MICS community.

Stay tuned for the upcoming video of the BBQ to get a real taste of the evening.
